Konnichiwa! From Aizu Wakamatsu!

Saturday, December 01, 2007 8:53:58 AM

From where you say? I have moved to Japan, to a very small town, smaller than Reno Nevada. Aizu is a sake producing town, about 4 hours north of Tokyo, surrounded by paddy fields and beautiful mountains. The rice fields are fed from clear mountain run offs, so the sake is made from best rice.

I made several friends at the gym, conversations is not very fluid since they don't speak much English and I don't speak Japanese. One of the ladies speaks some English and her hobby is knitting!

I found one small knitting store when I first moved here in October but now they leap out at me "Dot-san, here I am..."!! There are quite a few, I discovered.

I got some pink yarn with tiny white bobbles to make a cute baby blanket for my translator's new baby and I am finishing a short sleeves sweater I made for myself.

Our shipment got here yesterday and now I really feel like I am settling down..I have most of my yarn with projects identified to it.

Aizu is always foggy and rainy but the sun does come out once in a while, hence, I have lost my tan! To those who know me - I am actually "white" now! Apparently, we get alot of snow here so I am bracing myself.

Onwards with the knitting .......

Sweaters for my little friends

Thursday, August 02, 2007 2:05:49 AM

Last February when I visited my little friends, Elizabeth fell in love with a top down sweater that I had knitted using New Tweed. She asked very nicely if I would knit a sweater for her, so I did, and I made one for her big sister Alexandra too.

E decided that she really wanted a pink cardigan with purple dots, so I got some ultra alpaca and I did a few rows of fair isle to give it some oomph. Then I decided to knit a beanie with the leftover yarns to complete the ensemble. I just love the look of the sweater, the beani and E together!

Big sis preferred a sweater, so I used some pink Bunny print for her using Knitting Pure and Simple top down pattern. Doesn't she look adorable??! I swear she has grown since her mom sent me her measurements! I still have some bunny left and when I get a chance, I shall extend the cuffs a little longer. That's the beauty of the pattern - you can add onto the length if you needed to.

Pictures coming!

Sleeves Soar with two needles!

Tuesday, January 16, 2007 1:03:01 PM

I am knitting socks with two addis at the moment - no I have not read Socks Soar with Two needles - i cannot tell if I enjoy it more than the double points yet BUT I have applied the concept to using two 24 inches addis to knitting sleeves in the round. I am in the middle of knitting a cardigan using Yorkshire tweed chunky so I am using #10 needles and the sleeves are soaring!!

Hey, come to think of it, if you are knitting a beanie, I suppose you could use two needles too and I suppose you could use them to decrease at the crown, thus, you don't have to change to dpns!! I shall have to try that.

Let me know if anyone has ventured to knitting sleeves and beanies with two circulars.
