I simply can't believe it's august already. Where do the months go? The older i get, the faster time flies - or so it seems. I assume i'm not the only one to feel this way?
I completed my 50k race on the 21st - took almost 8 hours of running/walking... and covering 7700 ft of elevation gain (according to my friend's GPS). I couldn't be happier!
This first picture was taken a bit before 6am (we had to wake up at 4) - and the 2nd one is taken about 1/2 mile before the finish. I can't believe i'm smiling... i must have been daydreaming about a milkshake or something. At the finish of the race, they handed me a HUGE beer - and then gave me a medal, which had a bottle opener on it. I love this race!! I have only been able to run 3 times since, though, and that has kinda gotten me down. Apparently my muscles need a few weeks to recover after such a long race. it's funny, but the less i run, the less i knit. I don't really know why. Maybe it's because i use my running as a chance to daydream about projects that i want to complete. And when i'm running, i think about how wonderful it will feel to sit down in a few hours! Either way, I'm glad to start up again - and glad to get going knitting.
Actually, i have been crocheting a bit - Susan from Crystal Palace sent me a bit of her new yarn Puffin (which i absolutely adore) and i've finally decided what to do with it. It literally took me about 3 weeks to figure out what to knit. I kept going back and forth - and even started a couple of projects, but always ended up ripping them out. I don't know why i can't make a decision, but i have to say that it causes a fair amount of anxiety. that's why i usually just ask Sandy to 'assign' me a knitting project - i get too anxious if i have to choose myself. Maybe it's because i don't have much free time (we haven't gotten home from work earlier than 9pm for the last 4 days). With no free time, i want to make sure that whatever i'm working on is absolutely perfect! Do you know what i mean? Anyway, I knew i wanted to knit a baby blanket and i knew i wanted to use multiple colors, but i wasn't sure which pattern to use. I finally decided on one of the Ann Norling blanket patterns - you can see how far i've gotten :)
Ok - i'm off to San Francisco to visit a friend and to talk to my potential co-writer... we've just submitted a knitting book idea and are hoping to hear back soon - i'll keep you posted!
Yay! I finished the two other Baby Feet washcloths last night. Today i'll head downtown and grab some fancy baby bath products - and wrap them all up together. I have 3 cloths total: a sky blue one, a sage green one, and a 'sand' colored one - all Blue Sky Cotton colors. The combination is somewhat earthly - and subtle.
My big race is tomorrow (at 6am!), so i'm planning to lay low all day: get some work done, and then get some knitting done tonight. I still need to finish up a couple of squares for the baby shower blanket. Since this race might take me about 8 hours, i'm assuming that i'll be too tired tomorrow night to do any knitting ... but i'm already itching to start a new project. The crystal palace puffin is sitting here staring at me - taunting me to knit something out of it... i had picked one of the ann norling baby blanket patterns and thought i might use that - maybe knit with the blue puffin, the blue spotted puffin, and the blue trendsetter ballet. I'm even thinking of crocheting instead of knitting - i haven't done that in so long!!
