I'm trying to figure out the scariest thing about buying yarn online... is it that the colors won't be what you thought they were? Or that they yarn won't be what you expected? Any thoughts?

I think the scariest is that the yarn won't be what you thought.  I have had that happen to me and since then I won't buy yarn online that I haven't already physically seen and felt.

However - alot of online companies do have reasonable return policies, so your not completely "up chocolate creek w/out a popsicle stick!"  :-)

Okay, on the Muench Big Baby page at JBW, it says to cast onto a #13 needle and go. I've never knitted a baby blanket before (!), so do I just do the math for the # of stitches and then go back and forth in stockinette stitch?

Thanks!!

Yep - thats it exactly.  With the Big Baby - because it's such a bulky yarn that you won't need more than 75 sts across, maybe even less.  However, I would suggest going with a different stitch.  Unless you brace the stockinette with a few stitches of garter on the sides, it will curl up in  abig way.

Replied to: What stitch should I use? Do I use a garter stitch for the whole thing?

A garter chevron stitch would look pretty nice, as well as be pretty easy.  Unfortunately, I left my stitch pattern book at work, so I won't be able to write down the pattern right now.  However, I'm sure if you did a seach online, you some up with something. :-)

Replied to: I would really like to start knitting for charity, but how do I get started? Does anyone have any ideas or charities for which they knit?

Laura - If you go to lionbrand.com they have a whole section set aside for charities, including what they need and how to contact them.  Hope that helps. Hannah
